Interesting Evening...

I taped my Premium Blend set last night and it was a blast. The audience was amazing to the point of even throwing me off my game a little bit. As far as the post Blend throwdown, it was a good time, but at a certain point things got out of control.

All I will say for now is that the following pictures were taken at approximately 4:30 AM. The full nutty story will be revealed at the 'Test on Monday.

Crash Test Recap, Etc.

Thanks so much to those that came down to the 'Test last night. All the comics really appreciated the opportunity to workout their Blend sets in front of such a great audience.

Next week we have a very special edition of the 'Test. My co-hosts will be my roommates Merlin and Zach. This isn't a bit where like 2 improvisers pretend to be my roommates, no these are my actual roommates and they will be my co-hosts. Should be a blast.

Venting Frustration...

Late Saturday night, my buddies and I discovered the most fun way to relieve frustration in New York. The fun began around 2 AM when my buddy Nick found a broken cell phone laying on the ground. It was still in tact, just not functional.

I have always wanted to just throw my cell phone on the ground as hard as I could one night when I was upset about something. I imagined it would be like a wallpunch-esque way to vent out frustration, without enduring the cumbersome wallpunch related medical problems. The problem was that I knew a broken cell phone would be a pretty decent inconvenience (not as inconvenient as hand surgery and various casts for 2 months, but a nuisance nonetheless). However, now, with the gift of this broken cell phone, I could finally let it rip. Conveniently enough, I was in a bad mood, so in the words of my buddy Starco - "Let's go!"

We came up with the idea of waiting until we were beside groups of people before going for our slams. Catching peoples reaction to the crushing cell phone tosses would be half the fun. My buddy Merlin kicked things off with a "Fine then! I don't like you anymore either!" and like a baseball being tossed into right field, the phone launched into the middle of Essex Street. Nick and I played along with please of "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" and "Take it easy guy!" People were definitely freaked out. The phone almost got run over, but I luckily saved it.

Next up, it was my turn. We hit Ludlow and I went with a quick "What do you mean? You hooked up with who?! WHAAAT!?!?!" and then boom! My strategy was the forceful, straight into the ground slam-style throw. Once again, people seemed pretty surprised. Some dude even went, "Don't let them bitches get you down man." Amen brother.

We soon realized that it would be more interesting to see people's reactions to the move if it was prefaced with a bizarre comment right before the slam. Here are some examples:

"So we're not having brunch tomorrow?!!"

"Well, you tell Wilmer Valderama to go fuck himself!!"

"There were no more copies of Hitch at the video store? Well that's bullshit!"

"So you didn't buy the popsicles?!?"

"Then fine, YOU keep the doughnuts!"

"Thats not the point, it was MY ball of yarn and you had no right to take it!"

Tragically, the final toss took place on 2nd Street at around 4:30 am as Merlin and I headed home. The phone disappeared somewhere underneath an Escalade that was parked on the corner.

So anyway, if you have an old cell phone that you don't use, please email me. (I'm serious.)

40 Year Old Virgin

Didn't I call it? This film was amazing. Go see it. Now. Funniest, most well done comedy I've seen in quite a while.

Steve Carrell is the fucking man. He totally knocks it out of the park and I can't wait to see more Carrell vehicles. Its about time. The rest of the cast is also amazing, particularly Carrell's buddies at the electronics store. Rudd and co. brought the goods.

Bottom line - Apatow, Carrell, and co. totally delivered a gem that definitely lives up to the super high expectations I had, given that the film does have the greatest movie poster of all time.

Interesting sidenote: When I was looking to see how much money 40 Year Old Virgin made over the box office weekend, I saw a link to an article about how the Will Smith romantic comedy Hitch had a big box office opening. The article began with the following line:

Will Smith's first romantic comedy went off without a hitch at the box office.

Now that's amazing.
